A couple of things. Typically, the design is done by us, and then Mobisoft implements it. However, there are certain designs that are very hard to implement or that could be implemented in a different, much easier way. Sometimes, the engineers know those alternatives. It would have been nice if those engineers had recommended some changes.

No. I’m very happy with the interactions and with them. They helped not only with this project, but they also had good suggestions about building a product video, which we put together on a shoestring budget. We ended up with good quality based on some of their recommendations. They were good partners and went above and beyond where we initially started. We had a very clever user interface. They were on budget and on time. Their project management and communications skills are good. They use Basecamp as a tool. That’s a product that I looked at maybe six years ago and started using. We brought it back into play, and I’m using it for about 10 of my projects.

It was a partnership for the design of the application. They have an extremely clever marketing and user interface capability. Number one, they’re affordable, and number two, we went in with a crude idea of what the intuitive interface would be. They had strong and interesting recommendations for moving away from the "blood and guts" perspective that might typically come out of a medical device. Our intuitive interface doesn’t have opthosclerotic plaque or a heart shriveling to show what happens as people age, or they develop cardiovascular disease. But it's based on the concept of having a maple leaf change colors as it would happen during fall foliage.

The client is a professor at Rice University who also works with Texas Medical Center, the largest medical center in the world. In a series of projects Obecto had built quite an expertise in the promising area of zoomable user interfaces (ZUI). The design challenge in the ePaper project was to successfully combine (more) the ZUI paradigm with the physical experience of browsing a publication. The goal was to make if allow users to read though a publication as an ordinary book, but at the same time immerse into a zoomable screen, which can deliver various levels of detail and additional functionality, such as rating, an option for adding comments and one for sharing selected portions of the publication. Our solution consists of 2 major modules - the Viewer and the Editor. The Viewer is accessible from ordinary users who are browsing through or reading a publication, while the Editor is a special-permissions module, accessible only to the publication editors, who define and edit the interactive portions of the publication’s content. Our client Shift Global is a globally recognized design agency specialized in generating momentum-building solutions. The company approached us with the request to produce the marketing site (more) they’ve designed for a new brand of extremely high-end gins - OxleyTM gin. As usual, Shift Global provided us with precise down-to-the-pixel designs, detailed interaction requirements and a set of challenging constraints. Since oxleygin.com was a marketing site, its initial download time was of critical importance for the success of the marketing campaign, so Shift Global had fixed constraints on the allowed download time and on the overall size of the application. In addition to that, the development cycle had to be as short as possible, because the start date of the marketing campaign was very close. Considering the time we had, in order to provide such a blazing speed of development, the only available option was to use Adobe Flex, which allows designers and developers to work in parallel. So instead of using Flex off-the-shelf we decided to use the FLit framework we had built during the summer of 2009. FLit uses only a small subset of the Flex framework, thus reducing the overhead to the total of only 27KB. In addition to this subset, we had developed our own component model which allowed designers and developers to work in parallel with the same productivity as in Flex. The product has been later re-written in Java Script. Every week during the project we made intermediate deliveries. Each delivery exceeded our client’s expectations. The major challenge that the CAN Land project posed was the complexity of data organisation and the search model. Thanks to the expertise of the Obecto team, we successfully produced a quick, easy-to-use system that provides various functionality, among which controller comparison and compatibility check, a custom tool for data import and analysis, as well as an API that could be used by the platform customers. Indeed, as complexity and size of software grows the software architecture becomes more and more important to a point where it dominates technology as a software construction material. In the course of developing the games Bullshit, Bridge and Chess we defined, refined and documented the underlying software architecture. As a result Obecto and Shindig expanded their development efforts by joining new teams into the project. At the same time thе architecture guaranteed that all development was done according to a certain set of rules and principles, following a unified and streamlined approach. Not only have our architectural solutions addressed organizational issues, but they also ensured a set of extremely challenging attributes such as scalability, extensibility, maintainability and reliability. All these attributes can not be solved by simply applying off-the-shelf technologies and existing solutions. In a series of projects Obecto had built quite an expertise in the promising area of zoomable user interfaces (ZUI). The design challenge in the ePaper project was to successfully combine (more) the ZUI paradigm with the physical experience of browsing a publication. The goal was to make if allow users to read though a publication as an ordinary book, but at the same time immerse into a zoomable screen, which can deliver various levels of detail and additional functionality, such as rating, an option for adding comments and one for sharing selected portions of the publication. Our solution consists of 2 major modules - the Viewer and the Editor. The Viewer is accessible from ordinary users who are browsing through or reading a publication, while the Editor is a special-permissions module, accessible only to the publication editors, who define and edit the interactive portions of the publication’s content. A complementary part of our solution is a server-based automation service for generating all image pyramids that the ZUI requires. (less)

Our client Shift Global is a globally recognized design agency specialized in generating momentum-building solutions. The company approached us with the request to produce the marketing site (more) they’ve designed for a new brand of extremely high-end gins - OxleyTM gin. As usual, Shift Global provided us with precise down-to-the-pixel designs, detailed interaction requirements and a set of challenging constraints. Since oxleygin.com was a marketing site, its initial download time was of critical importance for the success of the marketing campaign, so Shift Global had fixed constraints on the allowed download time and on the overall size of the application. In addition to that, the development cycle had to be as short as possible, because the start date of the marketing campaign was very close.
